Rabbi Harry W. Ettelson, of Congregation Children of Israel, is leading a fight to defeat the introduction of Bible classes in the city public schools, a measure proposed by the Protestant Pastors’ Association.

“This movement is similar to one started two years ago, which I helped defeat then,” Dr. Ettelson said in a public address. “Bible classes in the public schools would be an admission of failure by the Sunday schools. The schools should not be made an adjunct of the church. The principal of separate state and church should be kept inviolate. The public school is the one place where all creeds meet and mingle. This unity should be maintained.”
