Rabbi Henry J. Berkowitz of Temple Israel, the largest Jewish congregation in the Pacific Northwest, died here last night after a long illness. He was 54.
Rabbi Berkowitz was “born in Philadelphia and was graduated from the Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati in 1921. During the last war he served in the Navy for a period of three years. He is the author of several books including “Boot Camp”, published last year, in which he described his experiences as a Navy chaplain.
