Rev. J. X. Cohen, one-time associate rabbi of the Free Synagogue of New York and former president of the New York Board of Rabbis, died here yesterday. He was 65.
Born in New York, Rabbi Cohen received his education as an engineer and spent nearly 20 years working in the field before turning to the rabbinate. He was graduated from the Jewish Institute of Religion here and began his long association with the Free Synagogue. He was the author of “Jewish Life in South America.”
