Rabbi Jonah B. Wise, Rabbi of the Central Synagogue, New York City, will be the editor and publisher of “The American Israelite”, succeeding his half-brother, Leo Wise, who is retiring at the age of 78.
The transfer of the paper took place here at the office of Gilbert Bettman, attorney.
“The American Israelite” was founded July 15. 1854 by the late Dr. Isaac M. Wise, father of the present editor. Dr. Wise was publisher and editor until his death in 1900 when he was succeeded by his eldest son, Leo Wise.
Rabbi Wise will contribute to the paper and direct the publication from New York where he will continue as Rabbi of the Central Synagogue, making frequent trips to Cincinnati.
