Rabbi Isaac Lewin, representative here of the Agudas Israel World Organization, has suggested the addition of several paragraphs for a study on the rights of minority groups, being prepared by the United Nations Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities. Rabbi Lewin spoke before a session on the feasibility of a proposed study to investigate the rights of persons belonging to ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities.
Rabbi Lewin suggested the additions of paragraphs dealing with the rights of religious minorities to slaughter animals in religiously prescribed ways, with the restitution of religious monuments and institutions that had been destroyed in wartime, and with the full compensation by the State to minority schools for the secular education given by these schools. He also presented an historical survey of the entire problem of the protection of minorities by international bodies.
