Members of the Israel Cabinet attended an 80th birthday reception here last night for Rabbi J.L. Maimon, leader of the Mizrachi movement and first Israel Minister for Religion. Also present were Israel’s two Chief Rabbis, other leading rabbinical figures Jewish Agency leaders and representatives of the Mizrachi-Poale Mizrachi central committee.
Premier Ben Gurion wrote a letter expressing his admiration for the “tremendous erudition, moral courage and devoted work for the Jewish State and Zionism” of Rabbi Maimon. Numerous speakers at the function paid tribute to Rabbi Maimon, including Levi Eshkol, Finance Minister, who brought the official greetings of the Government, and Chief Rabbis Isaac Halevi Herzog and Yitzhak Nissim.
