Speaking at the annual Purim luncheon of the Women’s Organization at the Home of the Daughters of Israel yesterday, Rabbi William Margolis of Congregation Ohab Zedak commented on the “Trial of Hitler” at Madison Square Garden Wednesday evening. Rabbi Margolis said:
“The power of public interest is great, and as civilization pronounced its damning verdict against Hitler, a mighty universal voice was heard which may help to quell, for a time, the storm of cruel discrimination and bitter bigotry now rife in Germany.
“But such steps, like all emergency measures, are but recalcitrant, negative methods whose effects are seldom lasting. Active injustice must be battled by active justice, active inhumanity must be conquered by active humanity.
“Thus, while the Jewish world is attempting to resist the ravaging attacks of prejudice, humane Judaism continues its progressive program of care and protection for the helpless and the needy.”
