Rabbi Iser Zalman Meltzer, considered one of the foremost students of the Talmud of the past century, died here today at the age of 83. The funeral was held today.
Rabbi Meltzer, who was born in Mir, Lithuania, came to Palestine in 1925. He was head of the Etz-Haim Yeshiva in Jerusalem and in this capacity helped to educate a generation of famous rabbis. He also served as chairman of the Council of Religious Scholars and wrote a number of books on religious matters.
