Funeral services were held today for Rabbi Morris B. Tomashoff, noted scholar and an authority on rabbinic law, who died here yesterday at the age of 81. He was spiritual leader of the Beth Israel synagogue in Brooklyn for 45 years.
Born in Russia, Rabbi Tomashoff came to the United States in 1912, and two years later became the rabbi of the Beth Israel congregation. He was honorary chairman and a former vice-president of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the U.S. and Canada, and an executive member of the Vaad Harabanim of New York. Rabbi Tomashoff was the originator and co-editor of Yagdil Torah, a monthly Journal on Jewish law, and was the author of numerous works on the rabbinic codes.
