Rabbi Nurok, member of the Latvian parliament who was intrusted by President Tschakste to form a new cabinet, has succeeded in his task. He has, however, declined to accept a post in the new cabinet.
Through his mediation a coalition government with marked tendencies to the Left was formed. The cabinet consists of five socialists and four representatives of the middle class. The office of Prime Minister was given to Skujenik, Socialist.
During the debate which took place in parliament following the formation of the new cabinet, speakers of the Right parties charged that the new cabinet was “a Jewish government.”
The Latvian Senate has decided that Jewish institutions be permitted to keep their accounts in Yiddish.
