Rabbi Joseph Isaac Schneursohn, of Riga, known as the Lubawitscher Rebbe, will arrive in this country tomorrow for a visit. A number of receptions in his honor have been planned.
Rabbi Schneursohn comes to the United States from a visit to Palestine, having left that country on the eve of the outbreak of the Arab riots.
A laymen’s committee for his reception has been organized under the chairmanship of Samuel Kramer.
In connection with Rabbi Schneursohn’s arrival, the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada, and the Rabbinical Board of New York City have issued proclamations of welcome.
“We call upon all our colleagues. Rabbis throughout the country, and upon Jewry at large, to receive this most distinguished guest, and extend to him all courtesies befitting such a personage, upon his arrival, on the 17th of September, 1929. By honoring him, we honor the Torah and the good name of the Jew. He is, indeed, the most outstanding Rabbi who has fought for the perpetuity of the Torah with the greatest devotion and sacrifice. His deeds for Judaism will be treasured in the hearts of many people, and will go into the annals of the history of the Jews,” the proclamation of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis declares.
