Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver’s twenty years with The Temple was marked tonight with a testimonial dinner at the Hotel Statler in connection with The Temple’s 87th annual meeting.
Messages of congratulation were received from Jewish and non-Jewish leaders in many parts of the country, including one from President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Mr. Roosevelt’s message read:
“Yours has been a distinguished leadership, characterized by urbanity, charity and the spirit of good citizenship. I trust that you may long be spared in health and strength to continue the devoted labors which you have carried on so unremittingly and with such singular devotion to the well-being of your fellowmen. I send you my hearty congratulations and warmest personal greetings.”
