Rabbi Leivy Smolar, a member of the Baltimore Hebrew College faculty, will succeed Dr. Louis L. Kaplan, the noted Jewish scholar, as head of the college, it was announced here by Lester S. Levy, chairman of the board of trustees. Dr. Kaplan, who will have the title President-Emeritus, will leave his post at the end of August. Rabbi Smolar has received degrees from Columbia University, New York University and the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, with honors, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. A consultant to the National Program Department of the B’nai B’rith Youth Organization, he has published numerous works for youth. Mr. Levy also announced that Rabbi Samuel Glassner, also a member of the college faculty, has been appointed dean of adult and teacher education. Raymond Bloom. Assistant Professor of Bible and Rabbinic Literature, has been named dean of the college, responsible for academic studies.
