A unique form of High Holiday services will be conducted at Town Hall, 113 W. 43rd Street, by Rabbi Jacob Sonderling, well-known Jewish minister, who is noted for his various innovations in the Jewish service. The services will take place on the evening of September 20th, the morning of September 21st and also on September 22nd. The evening service to inaugurate the Jewish New Year will be devoted to a German-Jewish service in which the contributions of German Jews to their native German culture will be exemplified by the rendering of music composed by eminent German Jews. Rabbi Sonderling will also devote his sermon to the accomplishments of German Jewry.
The selection of Town Hall for the High Holiday services by Rabbi Sonderling was motivated by the possibility of founding a permanent synagogue there to be known as the Mid-Town Synagogue, which will serve Jews in the theatrical profession who make their homes in the Times Square district. The special High Holiday Services are expected to attract such Jews, as well as out-of-towners staying at hotels in the neighborhood who would otherwise be at a loss to find a suitable synagogue to attend service for the High Holidays.
