The oldest Chassidic rebbe in the United States, Rabbi Solomon Samuel Twersky, the noted Tchernobiler rebbe, died yesterday morning of a heart attack at his home, 1578 Forty-eighth Street, Brooklyn. He was 70 years old.
Rabbi Twersky, who was born in Tchernobile, Russia, came to this country from Riga, Latvia, a year ago.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 o’clock this morning from the rabbi’s residence. They will be conducted by the Chassidic Admorim, organization of Chassidic rabbis, Grand Rabbi Rabinowitz of Brooklyn officiating. Chassidim from many cities are expected to attend. Burial will be in Beth David Cemetery, Long Island.
Rabbi Twersky is survived by his wife, Bella; three sons, rabbis in Russia; a daughter in Rumania and a daughter, Sarah, in this city. One of the three sons is expected to come from Russia to take his father’s place in Brooklyn.
