Karl Marx springs from an ancestray that has given numerous rabbis and scholars noted in Holland, Italy, Poland and Germany, according to the Jewish history Dr. Wachstein, who has investigated the family tree of the founder of Scientific Socialism.
One of Marx’s ancestors was Rabbi Judah ben Elaser Halevy Minz who was born in Mayence in 1408 but owing to persecution of Jews emigrated in 1450 to Padua where he became a professor of the university there. He died at the ripe age of one hundred years.
Another ancestor of Marx was the head of the Padua Yashiba. Other rabbinical progenitors of Marx were Rabbi Aaron Lowow, rabbi of Trier, who died in 1712. The long rabbinic ancestry of Marx explains his bent towards dialectics and speculative writings, Dr. Wachstein concludes.
