A departure by the Rabbinical Assembly of America from its policy on Palestine appeared assured today under a resolution adopted by its thirty-sixth annual convention for appointment of a committee to draw up a detailed formulation of its attitude.
The resolution was moved by Dr. Simon Greenberg and seconded by Prof. Louis Finkelstein, with Rabbi Abraham Heller, chairman of the Palestine committee, presiding. It reads:
“Be it resolved that within the next two weeks the president appoint a committee to draw up a detailed formulation of the attitude of the Rabbinical Assembly toward Zionism in its practical and theoretic aspects.
“That this committee be further empowered to consider ways and means of implementing that attitude within the framework of the World Zionist Organization.
“Be it further resolved that the committee present its conclusions before the planned mid-winter conference of the Rabbinical Assembly, and this special mid-winter conference be empowered to receive the report and take whatever action it deems necessary.
“Be it further resolved that a copy of the report of the committee and of its suggestions be sent to every member of the Rabbinical Assembly at least two weeks before the mid-winter conference.”
