Delegates attending the 37th annual convention of the Rabbinical Council of America today unanimously adopted a resolution backing the recent Supreme Court decision on pornography. The court decision will enable states to ban books, magazines, plays and motion pictures that are offensive to local standards.
Officers of the Orthodox organization told the 500 rabbis that the moral fabric of this country which is based primarily on the strength of the family unit, is being eroded by the wave of “pornography, obscenity; nudity and indiscriminate promiscuity.”
Orthodox leaders also charged the publishing, TV, radio and motion picture industries with exploitation and selfish financial interest. Rabbi Ephraim Kolatch, chairman of the convention, issued an urgent plea to Governor Rockefeller and Mayor Lindsay to immediately exercise their authority under the new Supreme Court decision to clean up New York City. The four-day convention ends tomorrow.
