A Rabbinical Council for the administration of Jewish religious affairs in the Republic of Lithuania was established by the Lithuanian government.
The Council has approached the Minister of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic representatives, asking for permission for the Agunoth, women whose husbands went abroad during the war and post-war period, to emigrate. There are a large number of Agunoth in Lithuania.
The Rabbinical Council has also decided to ask the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States to present to the Washington authorities the plight of the Jewish women in Lithuania who are separated from their husbands by the operation of the quota law.
