The Rabbinical Council of America, central body of Orthodox rabbis throughout the United States, expressed its indignation today over recent picketing and demonstrations in front of the White House protesting the building of a swimming pool for mixed bathing in Jerusalem.
The Council statement said it was “unfortunate” that the Neturei Karta pickets were Orthodox Jews, but insisted that they were a “most irresponsible group.” Their action, the statement added, had drawn the opposition of the entire Jewish religious community of the United States. It had discredited Israel and Orthodox community in this country, the Council said, calling on Orthodox Jews to end all relations with “this irresponsible element.”
