The Supreme Rabbinical Tribunal has declared that no conversion of a non-Jew to Judaism was valid unless it was performed in accordance with Jewish Religious Law. The tribunal rejected complaints that Israeli rabbinical bodies were “unduly harsh” with would-be converts, asserting that each person not accepted was not worthy of acceptance. Some observers viewed the statement as being aimed at criticism emanating from delegates to the first convention in Israel of the Central Conference of American Rabbis.”
