Rabbis Throughout Country Commend “jewish Book Week”

The idea of designating May 21 to 27 as National Jewish Book Week as outlined in the “Jewish Daily Bulletin” of April 14, by Rabbi S. Felix Mendelsohn of Temple Beth Israel of Chicago, is spreading rapidly over the country, according to Dr. Mendelsohn. A large number of rabbis in Chicago and elsewhere have endorsed the movement.

In Chicago, the following rabbis, in addition to an unanimous endorsement by the Chicago Rabbinical Association, have recommended the idea and assure it their support; Dr. Samuel Schwartz of the Washington Boulevard Temple; Dr. Solomon B. Freehof of K. A. M. Temple; Dr. E. Charles Syndey of Logan Square Congregation Shaare Zedek; Dr. Joseph H. Margolies of the South Side Hebrew Temple; Dr. Max Kadushin of The Humboldt Boulevard Temple; Dr. Mayer Lipman, Temple Beth El; Dr. Jacob Singer, Temple Mizpah; Dr. Abram Hirschberg of Temple Sholom; Dr. Felix A. Ley of Temple Emanuel; Dr. Morris Teller of Congregation B’nai Bezalel; Dr. Louis L. Mann of Sinai Temple; Dr. G. George Fox of the South Shore Temple; Dr. David Rosenbaum of Temple Judah; Dr. Benjamin Daskal of Congregation Rodei fi Zedek, and Dr. Alexander Dushkin, executive director of the Chicago Bureau of Jewish Education.

Other rabbis endorsing the idea are Dr. Louis Wolsey of Philadelphia, president of the Central Conference of American Rabbis; Dr. Stephen S. Wise of New York; Dr. S. J. Levinson, and Dr. Max Reichler of Brooklyn, N. Y.; Dr. Leo M. Franklin and Dr. Leon Fram of Detroit; Dr. Alexander Segal of Lincoln, Neb. ; Dr. Alexander Segal of York, Pa, and Dr. Daniel Davis of Hammond, Ind.

In their sermons during Jewish Book Week the rabbis will stress on the appropriateness of presenting Jewish books as gifts for confirmants.
