“Royal Scott Gulden and his Order of ’76, of which my son was falsely accused of being a member, are un-American,” Pelham St. George Bissell, President Justice of the Municipal Court, told a Jewish Daily Bulletin reporter Friday.
“Let me add,” Justice Bissell continued, “that any organization which directly or indirectly makes for racial prejudice is abhorrent to everything this country holds sacred.”
David Blum, the jurist’s Jewish secretary, expressed anger at charges of anti-Semitism loged against Justice Bissell.
“I’ve known him for seventeen years,” Blum declared. “I’ve never met anyone more tolerant nor more friendly to Jews, both in deed and in thought.”
