A radioisotope center which will serve the entire state of New Jersey was formally opened here at Beth Israel Hospital. The center, planned for two years by the Atomic Energy Commission, the New Jersey and Essex County Medical Societies and the New Jersey Division of the American Cancer Society, will make available isotopes for clinical use throughout the state. Isotopes are used in treatment of certain forms of cancer and for some blood diseases.
Clinical facilities of the center will be under direction of Dr. Louis J. Levinson, the hospital’s therapeutic radiologist. Dr. Lester M. Goldstein, Beth Israel’s director of laboratories, will be in charge of research activities. The Jewish Community Council of Essex County has voted a grant of $100,000 to the hospital and ten percent of all net funds over $2,350,000 raised by the United Jewish Appeal of Essex County.
