Ralph I. Goldman Named Chief Executive of Israel Education Fund

Ralph I. Goldman, for four years director of the department of technical assistance in the office of Israel’s former Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, and more recently executive vice-president of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation with headquarters in New York, was appointed today as executive director of the United Jewish Appeal’s Israel Education Fund.

Announcement of his appointment was made by Joseph Meyerhoff and Charles J. Bensley, respectively chairman of the board and president of the Fund. As the principal-executive of the Fund, Mr. Goldman will direct the new UJA project in a five-year capital fund campaign for $127,600, 000 on behalf of secondary education in Israel. The fund’s projected program includes construction and equipment of 72 high schools, granting of 105, 000 student and teacher-training scholarships and creation of national networks of youth centers, pre-kindergarten schools, libraries and fully equipped science laboratories.

In accepting his new post, Mr. Goldman said: “I consider the broadening of educational opportunities one of the most critical problems facing the people of Israel today. I am hopeful that the Israel Education Fund will be instrumental in helping to make secondary education available to all students in Israel’s near future.”

Raised in Boston, Mr. Goldman holds an MS degree from Boston University, and studied at Harvard University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and Boston Hebrew College. He served as executive director of the Canton, Ohio, Jewish Community Center and Welfare Fund early in his career.
