After being confined for twenty-six days in a dark pit in a deserted field behind a Jewish cemetery here, Leib Mali, twenty-year-old kidnaped youth, was today returned to his father by the kidnapers.
Protracted negotiations with the kidnapers finally induced them to accept $3,000 instead of the $15,000 they had originally demanded for the boy’s return.
The youth was kidnaped by White Russians on June 10, in the vicinity of a Jewish synagogue in the heart of the Jewish district here. He was forced by his abductors to send a note to his father pleading that he pay the ransom and not notify the police, or he would be tortured and murdered.
Jacob Mali, the father, a former prominent contractor for the East China Railway, will leave with his son for Soviet Russia.
