Gerhardt Hauptmann, the great German author, who is now in Italy, sent a letter for the meeting which was held yesterday at the Rathenau Villa by the Democratic leaders in connection with the election campaign. “I am too far away”, he writes, “to be able to attend your meeting at the house which I know so well, the home of my dear great friend, Walter Rathenau. It was one of the saddest days in German history when Germany’s noblest hope fell-the victim of blind hatred.”
