The Milan Jewish Community publication, which has opened its columns to various views on the question of whether the Jewish community should accept the return of Jews who were converted to Christianity during the Fascist regime, has published several more articles on the subject in its current issue.
The major article on the subject, written by Giorgio Romano, who is now living in Israel, urges the formation of special committees in each Jewish community to approach converted Jews and encourage them to return to Judaism. He insists that many converted Jews are still interested in Jewish affairs and attend synagogue services in which members of their families are involved.
The same issue of the publication carries a letter by Rabbi Fabian Herskowitz, who also favors encouragement of converted Jews to return to the Jewish community. Rabbi Herskowitz, who presented this view in an earlier issue of the newspaper, insists, however, that such matters should not be left to community councils but should be entrusted to rabbinical authorities alone.
