been sufficient proof in every court. Without it, the position of the Jewish attorneys continues to remain undetermined and their efforts to practice are surrounded by almost insurmountable difficulties.
MUST SIGN DECLARATION
At the request of the Minister of Justice of Baden, a questionnaire is being circulated among court officials of the state, asking for details of their racial origin and requesting their signature to the following declaration:
“In spite of a careful investigation, I am unaware of any circumstances to justify doubt of my Aryan origin. Particularly, neither my parents nor grandparents belonged to the Jewish race or at any time to the Jewish religion. I am aware that should this declaration prove untrue, I risk the loss of my position.”
The city of Berlin, the example of which is usually emulated by the provincial cities, has published an official communique under the signature of state commissar Hafeman in behalf of the mayor, ordering all subordinate agencies not to use Jewish lawyers, but to retain “reliable Aryans.”
