The eightieth birthday of Dr. Mordecai M. Kaplan, founder of the Reconstructionist Movement, was officially celebrated here tonight by the Jewish Reconstructionist Foundation. Leaders in all walks of Jewish life attended the celebration which took place at Congregation Rodeph Sholom.
Dr. Kaplan founded the Society for the Advancement of Judaism in 1922, and launched the Reconstructionist Movement in the early 1930s. Professor of Philosophy for many years at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, he is the author of a number of books, including “Judaism as a Civilization,” “The Greater Judaism in the Making,” and “The Future of the American Jew.”
