A dinner here last night raised $7 million for the Israel Bond Organization, a record for a single fundraising event by the group. The 800 attendees heard speeches by Sen. Hubert H. Humphrey, Democrat of Minnesota, and Yitzhak Rabin, Israeli Ambassador to the United States. Humphrey declared that “It is necessary that America show not only affection for Israel but also our assistance, for we have a stake in Israel.” Rabin observed: “All that we ask from our neighbors, all that we ask from the world is peace, a real peace… We want peace that will be achieved and maintained by those who are in this conflict. This is the meaning of a real peace.” The dinner honored 65-year-old Louis Stein, chairman of Food Fair Stores, for his humanitarian activities.
