For the first time in the history of Amsterdam Jewry, as many as ten per cent of the Jewish population here registered with the Jewish Board of Guardians for Passover relief, it was disclosed here today.

This is due to the economic crisis which is now becoming serious in the Netherlands. The entire population is adversely affected and the Jewish population is suffering to a degree unprecedented in the history of Dutch Jewry.

The devaluation of the belga may throw out of work the 1,350 diamond workers who are still in employment, thanks to government subsidies. The majority of the Jewish population in Amsterdam is engaged in trading and in the diamond industry, as workers and dealers.
