A “Red Army Forest” commemorating the Soviet Union’s role in the Second World War was today planted on Jewish National Fund land in the Judean hills some eight miles west of Jerusalem.
Present at the ceremony were members of the Israel Cabinet and Parliament, representatives of the Soviet legation and leaders of various phases of Israel life. The site of the forest is near Meale Hamisha and overlooks the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway in the area where the Jewish army broke the siege of Jerusalem.
