A Reform congregation at nearby Sands Point, Long Island, has won a clear victory in its fight to open a synagogue in that village, despite obstacles put in its path by the village authorities.

The village board withdrew this week-end regulations setting height, parking space and other requirements for the use of buildings for religious purposes which were passed shortly after the congregation, the Sands Point Community Synagogue, signed an option to buy an estate last Summer. An appeal to the courts by the synagogue was dismissed on technical grounds, but a second suit is pending and will not be dropped, according to the attorney for the congregation, until an occupancy permit is actually issued by the village authorities.
