At a meeting of a committee representing the World Zionist Organization and the World Union for Progressive Judaism (Reform) the World Union reaffirmed its decision to affiliate with the World Zionist Organization. Stating that Zionism, the Jewish people and Judaism are inseparable, and that the destiny of world Jewry is inextricable from the fate of the Jewish state, the leadership of the World Union expressed its commitment to Jewish solidarity and the necessity of rallying world Jewish to the sup-port of the Zionist cause in these difficult days.
The WZO was represented by Pinhas Sapir. chairman of the Executive. and the following members of the Executive: Leon Dulzin. Avraham Schenker, Moshe Krone. Joseph Klarman, Ezra Shapiro. and Mrs. Charlotte Jacobson. chairman of the WZO-American Section and Moshe Rivlin director-general of the WZO.
The World Union, which has one and a quarter million members in 25 countries, was represented by its president, Rabbi David Wice; Rabbi Alexander Schindler. president of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations; Rabbi Richard Hirsch. executive director of the World Union: Dr. Paul Steinberg representing Dr. Alfred Gottschalk. president of Hebrew Union College; Rabbi Joseph Glaser. executive vice-president of the Central Conference of American Rabbis; Rabbi Ira Youdovin. American director of the World Union; and J. Wagner of UAHC.
The constructive discussions advanced the formal affiliation process towards early completion, officials said.
