Convocation of “a summit conference of the spiritual leaders of all mankind” is being advocated in a letter to Pope John XXIII from Rabbi Maurice N. Eisendrath, president of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. Dr. Eisendrath made public today a letter he had written to the Pope, asking that the Pontiff’s call for a world-wide ecumenical council include not only Christians but all faiths.
The proposal for an ecumenical council of unity of all Christians was made recently by Pope John XXIII. In his letter, Dr. Eisendrath, as spokesman for 1,000,000 Reform Jews, proposes expansion of the plan, to make the projected world-wide convocation on “all inclusive council of world peace.”
