The Central Conference of American Rabbis, the Reform rabbinical association, joined this weekend the growing number of Jewish organizations opposing approval of the new New York State constitution because of its projected repeal of the Blaine Amendment in the present charter, which bars state aid to church-oriented schools.

Rabbi Edward E. Klein, chairman of the church-state committee of the CCAR, said in the announcement calling for a negative vote on the charter in the November 7 referendum, that repeal would make “a shambles out of any public school integration program.”
