Within twelve hours of the expiration of a thirty-day stay of deportation to Germany, Max Bleucher, Jewish refugee, was today granted a three-month extension by the Dominion government at Ottawa to secure a passport to Palestine.
The period of grace would have ended at midnight tonight. Bleucher missed the quota sent to Palestine by the Zionist Organization, but it was promised he would be included in the next group.
Bleucher is one of three German refugees apprehended for entering Canada from the United States illegally. While the other two were permitted to return to the United States, Bleucher was given a month to obtain a visa to Palestine.
His difficulty in obtaining the Palestine visa arose from the fact that Bleucher had no valid passport from Germany. Immigration regulations require possession of a passport before a visa can be issued.
