The first synagogue built by refugees from Germany and Austria as a memorial to the six million Jews who perished in Europe was dedicated here yesterday by the Orthodox Congregation Ohav Sholaum, which was formed in New York ten years ago. More than a thousand people attended the ceremony which was addressed by Mayor Vincent R. Impellitteri and Congressman Jacob K. Javits.
Rep. Javits said he planned to support proposals in Congress that the United States should furnish $500,000,000 to Israel by loans and grants, during the next three years. “Israeli-American relations,” he declared, “must be considered hereafter in terms of United States security and world peace.” This is why he urges the propriety of large-scale American aid to Israel, he explained.
