Jewish women and children refugees from the Arab disorders today staged a “hunger march” through the streets of Tel Aviv to the Government offices, where they presented the District Commissioner with a formal demand for food.
From the Government building, the procession went on to the offices of the Jewish Community where the marchers received assurances that the question of relief was being taken up with High Commissioner Sir Arthur Wauchope and would be swiftly settled. The community, in protest against the alleged failure of the Government to provide adequate relief for the refugees, had earlier withdrawn its assistance. A previous demonstration was dispersed by police.
At the height of the disorders, approximately 6,000 refugees were quartered in this city and fed largely by the municipal government. Many have since returned to their former homes.
Shooting was reported during the night at the Kadoorie Agricultural School on Mt. Tabor, at Afuleh, Tel Yosef and Mizpa.
