The 4,400 Exodus refugees imprisoned ?d three British ships in the harbor here today started a 24-hour hunger strike to ?st their continued detention three weeks after the convoy arrived at this Mediter?n port. Participants even included pregnant women and children.
Letters of protest were presented to the commanders of all three ships this ?ing. Later a message was smuggled off one of the ships, addressed to French ?er Paul Ramadier. The letter was delivered to the local authorities for transion.
The refugees thanked Ramadier for the kindness he had shown them, but reiterated ## determination not to disembark except on Palestinian soil. The message also ## that the French Government demand that the British fleet leave French territo? waters and that the refugees be returned to Palestine.
