Assailing Germany’s default on bonds to American citizens, The Jewish War Veterans, in the closing session of their national encampment today, unanimously adopted a resolution calling upon Secretary of State Cordell Hull to refuse new loans to the Nazi government.
Another resolution, also adopted unanimously, condemned the Nazi regime for “unsportsmanlike and cowardly treatment of an innocent, helpless minority” and urged that American participation in the Olympic Games be withheld unless they are staged in some other country. The pledge made by the Germans not to exclude Jews from the Olympic Games was made in bad faith by the Nazis, the resolution declared, and Germany continues to exclude Jews from participation in athletic contests.
The convention voted to thank the Baptist World Congress, recently held in Berlin, for declaring that Nazi anti-Semitism violated the teachings of Christ. James G. McDonald, League of Nations High Commissioner for German refugees, was also thanked for his work in aiding the victims of the Nazi government.
Newly organized anti-Semitic organizations in the United States were condemned in another resolution adopted and accused of propagating “bigotry and racial hatreds.”
A final resolution directed the executive body of the Jewish War Veterans group to aid in the construction of a conservatory of music in Palestine as a memorial to all Jewish soldiers who fell in the World War.
