The German embassy has turned down an invitation to the Bronson Cutting memorial lecture tonight because Mayor LaGuardia was scheduled to speak it was learned today.

The Mayor penetrated his addiction that Hitler’s figure should be placed in a World’s Fair horror chamber and added: “I think that the opening paragraph of the (State Department) apology, pointing out that we have freedom of speech in this country, was more embarrassing to the embassy than the apology was to me.”

As to the Cutting lecture, a Reich Embassy attache was reported to have said: “Oh, yes, I remember the invitation, but of course we will not attend. That was decided when we say Mayor LaGuardia’s name on the program.”
