Never before has Tisha B’Ab, the one-day fast commemorating the destruction of the Second Temple by the Romans and the dispersion of the Jews, been so observed by German Jewry as it was this year.
All German Jewish newspapers, including the C. V. Zeitung, central organ of the Central Union of German Citizens of the Jewish Faith, devoted long articles emphasizing the significance of the day and pointing out in every case that the tragedies which have befallen the Jewish people have never resulted in their complete annihilation, but have always strengthened Jewish existence.
“German Jewry’s prayers on Tisha B’Ab express thanks to God for enabling them to live until this Tisha B’Ab and also that their children may be enabled to live and be able to observe Tisha B’Ab always as Jews,” the C. V. Zeitung declared.
