The greater dependence of German Jews on financial relief from America during 1937 was emphasized today at a conference of the Reich Representation of Jews in Germany, central Jewish organization.
A budget of 4,350,000 marks for next year was adopted, including allocations of 1,400,000 marks for emigration, 860,000 marks to aid Jews in adjustment to new professions, 500,000 marks for charity and relief, and more than 500,000 marks for schools.
It was declared at the meeting that the misery of the Jews in Germany is growing and emigration is now their main problem.
The difficulties faced by Jews who have been cut off from credit facilities were discussed at a conference of the Central Committee of Jewish loan kassas, held simultaneously, with the participation of Noel Aronovich, general secretary of the American Joint-ICA Foundation.
It was decided to expand the activities of the sixty kassas now functioning in Germany with the foundation’s assistance in order to prevent forced liquidation of Jewish enterprises through deprival of non-Jewish credits.
