German press comment today on Chancellor Hitler’s speech yesterday at the Nuremberg congress of the Nazi Party, emphasizes that the speech indicates a continuation of the drive against Jews and Catholics as the “internal enemies” of the Nazi Reich.
Foreign diplomatic circles consider the speech as indicating that Hitler sides fully with Goebbels and Streicher against Schacht on the Jewish question.
Not only the Voelkischer Beobachter, the Nazi party official organ, but even the less anti-Semitic Deutsche Allgemeine Zeitung in today’s editorial interprets Hitler’s speech as meaning that no mercy will be shown to individuals as long as this is required by State interests. “The fight against our internal enemies,” writes the Allgemaine Zeitung, “is essential in order to unite and strengthen our generation.”
