German Consul-General Kropp protested to Mayor Frank Day today against a remark attributed to Alderman William Croft, who was reported to have said, after an inspection of the Toronto Zoo, that it was so dirty, “the only thing I’d put in there would be Hitler.” The consul asked that “the offensive remarks be withdrawn.” Mr. Croft replied: “I never heard anything so ridiculous in all my life. As far as I am concerned the German Consul Can Go To——. The People Of Canada are Not Going To Goose-Step For Him Or Anyone Else.”
