On the eve of his 48th birthday, Chancellor Adolf Hitler today announced Germany’s willingness to take part in a world economic conference sponsored by President Roosevelt or the head of some other great nation, the Havas News Agency reported.

A joint statement issued by the Fuehrer and George Lansbury, veteran British pacifist, after a 2¼ hour conference, declared:

“Germany will be willing to attend a conference and take part in united efforts for establishing economic cooperation and mutual understanding between the nations of the world if President Roosevelt or the head of another great nation will take the lead in calling such a conference.”

Emerging from his meeting with the German leader, Lansbury declared they had discussed the international situation as a whole and that the talks had taken place in a friendly atmosphere.
