The Reichsbank made new inroads on Jewish capital today by devaluating the emigrant “sperrmark” and reducing its value to a little over a fifth of the ordinary mark.
Prospective emigrants are permitted to take out only 15,000 “sperrmarks” for every 100,000 marks deposited with the treasury.
It was estimated that since the advent of the Nazi regime three-and-a-half years ago, the treasury has collected 70,000,000 marks in “flight tax.” The Jews lost many millions in exchanging their capital for the “sperrmarks.”
