OF TOTAL COLLECTIONS OF 2,232,000 MARKS BY THE REICHSVERTRETUNG IN THE FIRST HALF OF 1937, THE AMERICAN JEWISH JOINT DISTRIBUTION COMMITTEE, THE WORLD COUNCIL FOR GERMAN JEWRY AND THE JEWISH COLONIZATION ASSOCIATION CONTRIBUTED 1,491,000, SAID THE REPORT, ISSUED BY THE EUROPEAN EXECUTIVE OF THE J.D.C. WITHIN GERMANY, 741,000 MARKS WAS RAISED.
EXPENDITURES OF THE REICHSVERTRETUNG’S CENTRAL COMMITTEE IN THE FIRST HALF OF 1937 INCLUDED OVER 600,000 MARKS FOR ECONOMIC AID, OVER 300,000 FOR EMIGRATION AND REPATRIATION, OVER 200,000 FOR RELIEF, APPROXIMATELY 41,000 FOR RELIGIOUS AND CULTURAL WORK, OVER 300,000 FOR SCHOOLS, OVER 75,000 FOR YOUTH AND SPORTS ACTIVITIES AND OVER 200,000 FOR ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION, MAKING A TOTAL OF 1,850,000 MARKS EXPENDED DURING THE SIX-MONTH PERIOD.
THE BUDGET CAN BE NO FURTHER REDUCED WITHOUT ENDANGERING THE ENTIRE SOCIAL WORK PROGRAM, THE REPORT SAID, MAKING IT NECESSARY THAT FOREIGN ORGANIZATIONS NOT DECREASE THE MEASURE OF THEIR ASSISTANCE.
DISCUSSING PUBLIC WELFARE WORK, THE REPORT SAID IT WAS NOW OF TEN IMPOSSIBLE TO MEET EVEN THE MOST URGENT REQUESTS FOR AID BECAUSE NECESSARY FOUNDS WERE LACKING.
MORE THAN ONE-FIFTH OF THE TOTAL JEWS IN GERMANY WERE ASSISTED BY THE JEWISH WINTER RELIEF ORGANIZATION, FOR WHOM 3,630,353 MARKS WERE EXPENDED. FOR OTHER WELFARE WORK 223,393 WAS SPENT. OVER 310,000 MARKS WAS SPENT FOR SCHOOLS.
THE GENERAL PROCESS OF LIQUIDATION OF JEWISH BUSINESS HAS GONE AHEAD, DECLARED THE REPORT IN DISCUSSING ECONOMIC AID. THE NUMBER OF JEWISH UNEMPLOYED ALREADY EXCEEDS TEN PERCENT OF THEIR POPULATION. THE SITUATION OF MEMBERS OF THE LIBERAL PROFESSIONS IS ESPECIALLY DESPERATE, NECESSITATING 1,250 LOANS TOTALLING 465,000 MARKS. HEAVY EMIGRATION IS NOT DIMINISHING THE WORK OF THE LOAN SOCIETIES, THE REPORT STATED.
